I’m just back from a week’s vacation in Denver. It was beautiful, sunny and … mountainous.

Acela down: “It would probably be months before all the brake systems are repaired, said William L. Crosbie, Amtrak’s senior vice president for operations.” Bummer.

My Best of Boston nomination in the donut category: chocolate, no sprinkles, from Lyndell’s Bakery in Ball Square. Caveat: they sell out of the chocolates between 8 and 8:30am, so get there early.

The Ellis Paul show was fantastic. The Somerville theater’s a little cramped, but our seats were at the front of a balcony section so we got some bonus legroom. Paul and his band (!) played just about all of the new album, American Jukebox Fables. If you want to get all verklempt, go and read the lyrics for Home.
Before the show they were piping Patty Griffin’s new album over the sound system. The album will be released April 20. She’ll be performing at the Orpheum on May 6. The Orpheum! Back in the day we used to catch her at the Kendall Cafe and the Tam in Brighton. She’s amazing, so this is not at all suprising, and very cool.
