I picked up a snapshot camera today, the
Casio Exilim EX-S880. Factors influencing purchase: low cost (already have a fancy DSLR, not looking for extravagance here), direct to MPEG-4 video capture (no messing around with transcoding after the fact), the nice big LCD screen on the back, and a fairly positive review by Ben Stafford on digitalcamerareview.com.

  1. I’m a big fan of the Casio S series because they’re so sleak and come in great colors. I bought the second generation ones for my sister a few years ago. She loves it!

I own the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1. It shoots raw and does MPEG-4 video with native 16:9 resolution. It’s the most fun camera at 28mm I know. It’s a little largish though. I’ve been recommending the Fuji F50fd to people. It’s not in the same class as the S (it’s larger than the Casio S and Z series, but smaller than the LX1), but it’s an impressive little camera. Not sure about the video.

    Have a great time shooting!
