More Blogs Like This

More Blogs Like This, a BloggerCon-inspired collaboration between myself and Feedster, is now live at http://subscribe.feedster.com.

MBLT tries to find similar weblogs by calculating frequently occurring word patterns in an RSS feed and searching for other feeds having the same words.

Thank you Scott Johnson for giving my code a home and participating in my BloggerCon session.

Here’s what Scott wrote about the new feature.

  1. Neat. Another approach I’d take would be to do a form of collaborative filtering across different sites’ blogrolls, in order to find “blogs that will probably be interesting to a reader of blog X”. Why oh why aren’t blogrolls published as OPML as a matter of course?

  2. I really like this idea, Andrew. I am glad that you are collaborating on this with the people at Feedster, and I hope that they will keep and develop this feature.

I have one question/comment, though. I tried my blog and a few of the other Harvard blogs, but it did not seem to work. Words from the tag lines seemed to be the only high scoring words. (In my case, “she”, “alcott”, and “fond” were the only high scoring words). Has anyone else reported this or am I doing something wrong (a real possibility)?
