My infant Mac is dead. Something wrong with backlight, I think. AppleCare says I have to bring it in for service. Expensive paperweight.

Sorry to read about your infant Mac. Hope you will not be without a machine on which to blog about BloggerCon!
I bought a Dell laptop with a 3 year on-site warranty, which I would recommend to anyone.
This week I used keyboard cleaner and a cotton wool ball to clean the casing and it left two blobs. I was mortified. Called Dell to say it was like driving a brand new car and having to look at two spots on bonnet. The engineer(in Bangalore, India) completely understood and sent an engineer round to my door within 24 hours to replace the entire keyboard casing. Wow, or what!
This goes to show how on-site warranties are well worth getting. Hope you are able to get your Mac fixed. Best of luck at BloggerCon.
Look forward to following all the news.

The folks at the Apple store said 7-10 business days. Might bring another laptop, but more likely none at all. More time to meet real live people.
